When are the visiting hours?
We encourage visitors and recognize the help they bring to our patients during their short term rehabilitative stay. While we do not have set visiting hours, we recommend 8am to 8pm as the ideal times to visit. If there are extenuating circumstances that prohibit you from visiting your loved one during that time, please let the administrator know, and we can make special arrangements.

Is there a limit to the number of people who can visit at one time?
Although we do not have a formal policy stating visitation guidelines, we suggest using the common areas of the facility to meet with your loved one. If it is not possible to visit in one of the common areas, we suggest a limit of one to three people in a resident room at one time.

Is there any private space available to use?
You may reserve our dining room, activity room or conference room for any special event (birthday, holidays, meals). We ask that you give us at least 48 hours notice so that we can accommodate any of your requests.

Can I bring my children to visit?
We encourage children to visit their friends and loved ones.

Can I bring a family pet to the facility?
We would love for your family pet to come visit. Please remember to clean up after them and take the proper safety measures at all times. All pets should also be kept on a leash.

How often will a physician or health professional visit?
Physicians generally see patients upon admission and are required to see them every 30 days thereafter. That said, due to the short term needs of our patients, physicians are generally in the building to see patients on a much more frequent basis. In addition, our nursing professionals are in constant contact with all of the physicians that visit the facility. Some insurance companies require that physicians visit more often. Check with our nursing staff for further information.

Can I take my loved one home for a visit?
Patients may have a leave of absence only with MD authorization, which can be arranged through nursing staff.  The resident or responsible party upon arrival and departure must sign the LOA (leave of absence) book, located at the nursing stations.

Can my loved one receive mail?
Definitely. Mail is delivered to patients personally on a daily basis except for weekends and holidays.

Is smoking permitted in the facility?
For the safety and welfare of all patients and staff, there is no smoking allowed within the facility. For a copy of our complete smoking policy please ask at any of our nursing stations. Apple Valley Rehabilitation does enforce all California State laws with regard to smoking. The designated smoking area is in the front corner patio. Apple Valley Rehabiliation's Smoking Policy: To ensure the safety of all residents and staff at Apple Valley Rehabiliation, smoking paraphernalia (cigarettes, cigars, tobacco, lighters, matches, ECT.) must be in a locked cabinet at all times.

My loved one has a favorite chair that I’d like to bring to the facility. Can you accommodate this?
We always want our patients to be comfortable; if space permits, small personal items from the resident’s home are always welcome.

Will I be required to do my loved ones laundry?
Bed linens, hospital gowns and towels are provided and laundered by the facility. If you would prefer to do laundry for your loved one, please inform the charge nurse/social services designee.

Is there someone who provides haircuts?
We have beauticians available every Friday from 8 am to 4 pm. Please contact Dorothy in activities to set up an appointment. Payment for all services is made in advance or at the Beauty Shop during appointment.

Where should I park, when I come to visit?
Free parking is available in the front of the building. Please observe all posted city parking signs. Avoid parking in spaces specifically reserved for the handicapped, employees and physicians. Parking may also be available across the street from our building.

Can I bring in my loved ones favorite food?
Consistent with the provision of special diets, always consult with the nursing staff before bringing food to patients. Any food kept in the resident room must be in properly sealed containers.

What articles of clothing should I bring?
We recommend approximately five changes of clothing and a pair of comfortable rubber-soled shoes. All articles should be washed, clearly labeled with resident’s name in permanent ink and entered into the patients’ personal inventory log in the medical chart. Other personal items should be marked or engraved for identification. We advise that patients do not keep valuable jewelry or large amounts of cash in the facility.

Clothing and Laundry Tips:  All personal clothing is washed in an industrial washing machine at a temperature of 180-degrees. Make sure your loved ones clothing is appropriate for washing and drying in these hot temperatures. Clothing that requires cold or warm water or special care is subject to damage and fading. All clothing must be labeled. Please label the clothing with the resident, NOT the room number or initials. Mark clearly and in large letters on the inside neckline or waistband. All items must be marked including socks, shoes, and other personal items.

All patients have access to our portable phones that we make available to them on request. Apple Valley Rehabilitation is currently in the process of making private phone access is available to every resident. We appreciate your patience as we install the new phones. Currently, patients can bring in their own phone and simply plug it into the phone jack next to their assigned bed or a phone can be provided by the facility at no extra cost.

Will I have access to my laptop?
Apple Valley Rehabilitation is completely wired for wi-fi internet connections. If you would like to bring your computer in to email clients, chat with family, or simply check your stocks please let us know and we’ll give you the wireless password for your connection.

Will my loved ones room have a television?
Every bed comes equipped with a new flat screen LCD/DVD combination television with over 50 channels. Each television is paired with a set of wireless enabled headphones that allow for you to listen to your television program in privacy.

What kinds of activities are planned for the patients?
Apple Valley Rehabilitation has a vibrant atmosphere with dynamic, individualized activities that match the capabilities and needs of patients and their guests. We also have active resident and family councils and volunteer programs. Scheduled activities include: music, fitness activities, religious meetings, outside entertainment, games, gardening, candlelight dinners, stage shows, field trips/outings, volunteer involvement, and much more. If you would like to arrange something special or have suggestions and ideas for individual or group activities, please inform our activities director. We welcome and encourage involvement from family and friends.

How often will the Rehabilitation staff work with my loved one?
The amount of time you or your loved one spends in therapy is specific to each patient and is based off a number of determinants including physicians order, insurance coverage, and personal preference. Please feel free to ask our rehab director for the specifics regarding you or your loved ones plan of care.

Will Medicare Part A cover my stay in the facility?
Patients must have a Medicare card that reads "Hospital Insurance." They must also be admitted to the facility with a physician order within 30 days of a three consecutive night hospital stay. Generally, during the first 20 days of care, Medicare will pay 100%. For days 21-100, a $141.50 daily co-insurance rate is required. Medicare does not cover skilled nursing fees over 100 days.
